The Spitfire is a World War II fighter plane designed by R.J Mitchel. It is my favorite plane of all time. Here you will find a bit of information about it...
The Spitfire was a single seated fighter used by the RAF. It was faster then the Hurricane and also had a distinctive appereance. It had a Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine rated at 1,470 hp and could reach speeds of up to 374 mph!!! It was 29 feet, 11 in long, had a wingspan of 36 feet, 10 in and was 11 feet, 5 in high! It could fly 35,000 ft high and had a range of 470 mi. The Spitfire was armed with Two 20 mm cannons, four machine guns and one 500 lb (230 kg) bomb! These plane was great, and RJ Mitchell never stopped touching it up and improving it. 20,334 Spitfires were made, and around 50 of them air still able to fly today. I consider the Spitfire as a great plane and a real icon in aviation history.
